A helping hand on Wedding Glove Etiquette

Wedding gloves today are becoming an ever increasing popular accessory for brides.  There is no doubt that the addition of a pair of wedding gloves will add elegance and grace to your overall wedding look.  Gloves themselves have always added an air of elegance to any special occasion, and today many brides are choosing to wear wedding gloves to complete their already elegant look.  However, because we don't wear them as much it is difficult to know the rules and etiquette around them.

Historically, the length of glove directly related to how formal the affair was and the time of day.  However, today the rules are somewhat more relaxed.  With so many beautiful wedding gloves to choose from, the decision of what style and length of wedding gloves to wear is all driven from the style and colour of your wedding dress.

Your wedding gloves should compliment your wedding dress.  The first decision to make is the length of the wedding glove.  Generally, the length you choose should compliment the sleeve length of your wedding dress, the shorter the sleeve, the longer the wedding glove.  If you choose a strapless dress then Opera length wedding gloves are a very popular choice or you could choose gloves just above the elbow.

The next choice is the style, there are so many beautiful wedding gloves available today.  Charms Bridal Wear offer 3 main styles - full fingered wedding gloves, fingerless wedding gloves or ring finger wedding gloves.

Full fingered wedding gloves are the most formal style of glove and cover the hand completely which would require the bride to remove the glove from her hand during the exchanging of the rings.  If you do remove your wedding glove, then simply hand it to your bridesmaid at the same time you pass the bouquet.  Once the ceremony has been completed, you can put your wedding glove back on ready for your photographs.  Full fingered wedding gloves are particularly popular during Winter weddings.

Fingerless wedding gloves are a very popular choice because the bride will not need to remove them during the ceremony for the  exchanging of the rings.  Fingerless wedding gloves simply cover the arms and end in a point at the fingers with a loop that fits over your finger to keep them in place.  This allows the fingers to be free for the exchanging of the rings.

Ring Finger wedding gloves are becoming more and more a popular choice particularly because it allows the bride to wear a full fingered wedding glove without having to remove the glove during the ceremony.  Ring fingered wedding gloves have a section cut out on the ring finger which enables the bride to slip her ring finger out of her glove to accept the ring.  The ring will also be displayed through the slot allowing the bride to show it off to all her guests after the ceremony.

Once you have decided on length and style, you then need to choose the design of your wedding gloves.  If you choose a heavily embellished wedding dress then you would probably want to choose a plainer design wedding glove.  If your dress is of a simpler design then this will allow you to choose a more embellished wedding glove.

A Wedding Gloves Top tip

When putting on your wedding gloves, remember to work from the wrist upwards and do not pull from the top as this will cause misshaping and will also stretch them.
